Cartoon character progress

That's right, it's time for another quick update! Today we have some more progress on a character I've been working on here and there in my spare time. There's quite a bit of work left to do, but it's coming along pretty nicely.

As you can see, there's still a bit of modeling work to be done. I need to finish modeling the hand, making tweaks to the eyes and face, add eyelashes and eyebrows, etc.

The character is my rendition of Hazel, from Bryan Lee O'alley's graphic novel, Seconds.

Next on the agenda is texturing, followed by rigging/posing, then lighting/rendering.

Added rust and colour variance to steel diamond plating

The amount of rust and denting can both be controlled independently to achieve the desired look
The node network for the material

Overall I'm happy with how it turned out. On to the next material~

Steel diamond plate, my first Substance Designer 5 material

I recently purchased Substance Designer 5, and I'm having a lot of fun playing around with it! I made this simple steel diamond plate material just to familiarize myself with the software.

Rigging controls generator script

I wrote a script with MEL in my spare time that allows you to easily create controls for rigs. If something is selected, controls will snap to the object upon creation--otherwise it will simply create the control at the origin. It also features a size slider and an 'align objects tool', useful for snapping existing elements together. The script is super simple, but it was a great learning experience for me. There's a download link below for anyone interested.

You can download the script here.

Futuristic MG concept

A quick semi-futuristic looking gun concept I whipped up in Photoshop today. I had a lot of fun with this, so I plan on doing a few more.
